Flash On the Beach

Alltop, all the cool kids (and me)

My good friend Tink (he's into this type of filthy stuff ;-) just pointed me towards the Diesel Intimate 'Lockin' site. There you can watch a bunch of teens doing, well, not much really.
Anyways the nice thing is that the site is using Flash Video (apparently via Vitalstream) to push the *live* video out. I've got a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot more of this sort of stuff this year. I wonder how they are pushing the video... (btw we're trying the new Flash Media Encoder at the LFPUG meeting this evening).

I can't get the Deisel cams to come up... bummer.

We've been streaming live 24/7 in Flash since October 06. Six TV stations, several beach cams, New Orleans cam...

I'd post direct links, but I don't want to look like a spammer! LOL!

We use our own FMS and encoders we developed. We're testing Flash Media Encoder and once we have a few specific issues worked out, we hope to switch so we can enjoy the benefits of the VP6 codec. It makes a huge difference in video quality.

Feel free to post relevant links.

Oh, and the diesel cams are working for me now...

I watched it yesterday (diesel is an Italian firm) because i was curious to see how much it couldbe realtime.
well... it was.
Live chat is published instantly on the room's video and they answer accordingly.
I should not be surprised, but i am because of the quality of the video.
Video is really good (to be live flash) and that makes me think about os2 vp6 live encoding. It definitely doesn't look like spark codec.
That "interlacing" is strange tho... i wonder if it's an effect they did with bitmapdata in order to "fake" a bettere resolution (that trick was quite common in '95-98 demos)

good work anyway, really good work.

yeah I think those 'TV stripes' are simply added in Flash. I'll try to find out who produced the site...

Could also be the hardware. Our New Orleans live cam generates those interlace-looking lines, but we haven't had time to determine whether it's the camera or the capture card.

We did experiment with several capture cards and the results varied greatly. Winnov, for example, produced heavy lines like that. We are currently using cheap WinTV cads from Hauppauge and they perform as well as some really expensive cards for web video publishing.

there are scan converters that will deinterlace footage for you before it hist the encoder.
However the Diesel site has - and I know this for a fact - added the effect in. The lines are not in the video itself.

BTW - We fooled around with trying to capture audio and video through firwire with our custom encoders and we never could get flash player to recognize the camera (camcorder) as an audio device. We haven't tried yet with new FME, but has anyone had succes with audio and video with firewire?
# Posted By Steve | 1/26/07 3:46 PM
no I haven't, always had to use a dedicated mic...

Thanks Stefan.

Interesting that Diesel would choose to add that effect... we are trying to get rid of it. LOL!

well Stefan... it's an effective way to fake a double resolution

I've made contact now and yes, it was Farfar. They are going to speak to me and I will post the results in a seperate post in a couple of weeks.
