Are you a Mac user with an Intel Core Duo machine? Do you run BootCamp? If the answer is yes then could you do me a favour and tell me if Flash Media Encoder (FME) will run on your machine under Windows via BootCamp? We've already found out that FME is not compatible (or does not seem to be able to access cameras) under Windows via Parallels.

I've recently bought a second-hand MacBook Pro and have already tried FME under Parallels. As expected the application runs but throws an error when trying to access a camera which is otherwise working fine in Windows. I'd give BootCamp a try myself but on this particular machine it will require a reinstall of OSX which I cannot carry out right now as I'll have to wait until Kevin sends me the OSX disks ;-)
So in the meantime I would appreciate it if someone else could tell me if they can get FME to run (and access a camera) on a Mac running Windows via BootCamp.
The reason for why I'm in a bit of a hurry with this is that there's a chance I may be running some live broadcasts from the Adobe Live event in London on June 5th/6th (I'll be there on June 5th so say hello if you spot me struggeling with getting a decent WIFI signal). Thanks boys and girls, please post a comment below or email me via the contact link at the top of the page.

Hey Stefan, works fine on my machine running Vista under BootCamp.

Cool, thanks Jim.
I presume this is with accessing a camera, too?
cheers!

Yeah, I've tested it using a USB webcam but a DV source should work fine.

On a separate note: still no matter what machine I use I get shifting audio pitch problems.. hopefully they'll be able to fix that soon. It's really noticeable with music, and the suggested buffer time fix doesn't help (even occurs when recording to disk). Does anyone have any solutions to that problem?

yes I believe this problem will soon be addressed

Hey Stefan,

When you're doing that FME stream, if you need to improve that coffee house wi-fi, just get ahold of a Linksys wireless router and give it the DD-WRT hack. Sets it up as a repeater for any SSID, and I was amazed at the performance increase.

FME works in my copy of Windows XP Pro on Bootcamp. It does not work when I run the Bootcamp install in Parallels though. I get the can't find capture devices issue.

The audio sync issue is being addressed with the next version of FME.

Thanks Andy, good idea with the repeater. Thanks Brad also.

Hey, so did it work under bootcamp? I have the same issue, can't get FME to work with my iSight or a QuickCam fusion, wondering if it will in bootcamp.

I've tried parallels and VMWare Fusion

hi Justin,
yes it works under Bootcamp for me, including isight.

Hi there, has anyone experienced the shifting audio pitch problem on a PC running Vista? I get the problem when the audio source is a mic plugged into the mic input. I don't get the problem when the audio source is a DV camera (or a mic plugged into a DV camera). I have tried the same setup on a PC running XP, and it seems better. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this...

i think this is a bug and should be fixed once there's a new release of FME
