Alltop, all the cool kids (and me)

...from one of Europe's biggest Skateboard and BMX contests. Freecaster.tv will be are streaming live in high quality Flash video using Kulabyte's upcoming two pass live encoder. Yes, two pass live...
Check out this page over the weekend. Sweet, this is my kind of event. Anyone remember the Muenster Monster Mastership of '89? Were you there?

UPDATE: the stream is now live and I'm able to offer you the feed live here. Check it out and make sure you go full screen! The quality is very good that it's hard to believe that this is a live stream! Bandwidth courtesy of Interoute, delivery courtesy of Wowza, player courtesy of me ;-)

FURTHER UPDATE: the live feed has been removed from this post as the event is now over.

I'm in North Carolina at around 11:30am EST, and the stream looks pretty incredible, even in fullscreen. Only negative is the audio is about 3 seconds behind.

It is powered by Wowza Pro, not FMS3.

It worked for about 30 seconds then I got black screen. Been refreshing every few mins for about half an hour but no love. Maybe the broadcast finished?

It was back up for a few minutes. The HD of Kulabyte is amazing!! Stefan, do you know if this particular broadcast used Kulabyte's both hardware and software? Or is it just software?

Impressive quality for a live stream indeed, I need to get in touch with the guys at kulabyte :D
Also glad to see that it works with Wowza, that should give us another option for live encoding and we haven't found the perfect flash video live encoding solution yet.

the bitrate was quite generous, about 800 or 900kbit/s. The CDN is Interoute using wowza media server. The encoding is happening on a Mac Pro using Kulabyte software, I believe the encoding app is still in beta and the encoding technician told me that it took him a while to get it going; it's running in commandline mode I believe.
The audio was out of sync, I believe this could be due to the encoding software as the incoming feed was in sync. Luckily the sports footage can get away with audio sync issues for most of the time but that's definitely something the team is looking to improve.

Hi Stefan, thanks for the props! Yes, Express Live is still in beta and we're feverishly working on the audio sync issue (PAL is synced and working ... still working on NTSC). If anyone is interested, some of the guys are out at the Broadcast Live show now in London meeting with some folks and doing demos. If you're headed to the show you can drop Chris or Terry note at chris at kulabyte dot com or terry at kulabyte dot com .

Also, if anyone wants to see some live demo streams we can set those up and show you - just jump on our site and send in a request or email me directly ... jason at kulabyte dot com . It's great to see all the excitement for our product. Again, thanks Stefan have fun working for Adobe a few days :-)

Ciao,
Jason
