Flash On the Beach

Alltop, all the cool kids (and me)

Please be advised that I delete any comments which thank me for my 'wonderful articles' or 'this great post' in order to justify a link back to some sad and pathetic site. It's clear that you are the biggest scum that has ever walked this earth yet you have enough time on your hands to actually go through the trouble and adding your comments manually, including captchas as your bots are obviously letting you down, just to get someone - anyone - to link to you. I feel sorry for you.
Well guess what, in case you haven't noticed your comments are deleted after about 5 minutes of pathetic existence and your IP banned - and no I don't care if you are clever enough to spoof your IP, it gets banned anyway just because it makes me feel better. And don't post a 'thank you for this great site' to 15 different articles within a time frame 5 minutes, it kind of makes the game far too easy for me. Why not return once a week instead? Another piece of free advice: this site has a predominantly English speaking audience (doh!) so that could explain the poor response rates you are currently witnessing...

Dang, had to get it off my chest. Saddos.

If your blog software allow, enable moderation. Comments are not published until you approve them. You can simply ignore spam comments.

Drat, Andy beat me to it.... ;-)

fwiw, comment-moderation has itself become a plague... last week's Omniture issue was enabled by holding corrective comments in moderation indefinitely... the conversational flow also becomes confused because people can't see what other replies have already been submitted. Moderation queues are not the right solution.

We need to set up new social systems with the *expectation* that they will be abused. (As for comment-spammers, I have no problem with capital punishment.)

hehe count me in. I agree that moderation has no benefit, bad for users and more work for me (I get more good posts than I get comment spam :-).

I found the same thing on blog, and it is really frustrating.

I did find however that after a few weeks of their comments not showing up, most of them give up and stop trying.

Hey Stefan,
For me I use the Akismet plugin for wordpress, and almost all spam comments will be filtered out automatically by Akismet. What I need to do is just delete all spams once when I have time. Oh yeah, thousands of spams cleared one time. Only a few spams didn't detected, and once i got them, mark them as 'spam' and they wouldn't need you moderation anymore.

Good luck man. Like your blog.:)
